  • ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA se puede usar al PRINCIPIO, FINAL o en MEDIO de una oración.

  • Usamos ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA también con inversions.
NEVER have I been so offended! NUNCA he sentido tan ofendido.
RARELY have I seen a better film. RARA VEZ he visto una película mejor.  

En el medio

  • La mayoría de los ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA se usa en el medio de la oración.
  • Quiere decir que se pone ANTES del verbo principal o DESPUES del verbo ser/estar.
They USUALLY watch some TV at night before
going to bed.		 Normalmente ven la televisión por la noche
antes de ir a la cama.
They are NORMALLY in bed watching TV at night. Están normalmente en la cama viendo la

  • Usamos HOW OFTEN para preguntar sobre la frecuencia de algo.
HOW OFTEN does she run?¿Con cuanta frecuencia corre ella?

  • Si quieres contestar con un FRASE ADVERBIO DE FRECUENCIA (dos veces a la semana, una vez al mes, todos los noches), hay que usarlo al fin de la oración.
She runs THREE TIMES A WEEK.Ella corre tres veces a la semana.
They go swimming EVERY WEEKEND.Ellos nadan todos los fines de semana.

B2 C1 C2 English Expressions: take a rain check. When someone invites you and you REALLY do want to go but you can’t, ask for a rain check. This not only shows that you are interested in attending but that you would like to set another date to meet.

Take a rain check on something

  • Say ‘take a rain check’ when you cannot accept an invitation, but would like to do it at a later date.
    • I’d love to go for a coffee, but I’m so busy right now. Can I take a rain check on that?
    • We have plans for Saturday. We’re going to my sister’s house for lunch. Can I take a rain check?
  • You can also say it to make another meeting even though it would be different than the original idea.
    • I know you can’t change the date of the party, but I would love to take a rain check and maybe just meet up for a drink one night.

Expression Session

B2 C1 C2 English expressions: off the record. This is an American phrase that dates back to the 1930s. President Franklin Roosevelt used it to say that his words should not be attributed to him. So, today we use it in a similar manner. It means, don’t tell anyone I said this.

Off the record

  • As the example I gave above, the most common meaning of the phrase is that I am about to make comments or statements in confidence and they should not be published or recorded
  • Sometimes we use this expression without ‘the’.
    • Today, most politicians only want to speak off the record and won’t go public about anything.
    • Would you be willing to speak off record?
  • An unofficial statement.
    • As I am not the official spokesperson, I can only speak off the record.
    • Off the record, the event will be going ahead, but we should wait for the official announcement before we begin planning anything.

On (the) record

  • If something is ‘on record’ that it is official and I am publicly responsible for my words.
    • I agreed to speak to the newspaper on the record.
    • Are you willing to go on record with your testimony?

English Vocabulary: commute. We are all commuters (except you remote workers who commute from your kitchen to your home office). How do you commute every day? By train, car, bike or walking?

Commute (verb)

  • To travel from work to home or vice versa.
    • I commute to work every day by train.
    • He feels like he is always commuting.
  • We can also talk about the trip you take from home to school as commuting.
    • I’ve decided to stop commuting every day and move closer to school.
    • She commuted 30-minutes to high school every day.

Commute (noun)

  • The journey you take from your home to work or vice versa.
    • The commute took forever today because there was a huge traffic jam.
    • She has a 30-minute commute every day to get to work.
  • We also can talk about someone’s commute to and from school.
    • I’ll finish my homework on the commute.
    • He’s decided to change schools so that he has a shorter commute every day.

Commuter

  • The person who travels from work to home or vice versa.
    • Thousands of commuters ride the train in Madrid.
    • The government is encouraging commuters to use public transportation.
  • The person who travels to school and back.
    • Most people live near the school although there are some long-distance commuters.

Expresiones en inglés: can’t put a finger on it. Have you ever had that feeling like something was wrong but you are not sure why you feel like that? We have the perfect expression for that feeling in English: I can’t put my finger on it. It can also be a useful expression if you do know what is wrong but maybe you do not want to say it out loud to everyone.

  • Feeling like something is wrong without understanding why
    • I feel like something is wrong, but I can’t put my finger on it.
    • There’s something I don’t trust about her, but I can’t put my finger on it.
  • We also can replace ‘it’ with what it is.
    • I knew I did a poor job on the assignment, but I couldn’t put my eye on what the problem was.
    • Jenny thought he was lying, but she couldn’t put a finger on what he was lying about.

Expresiones en inglés: to be on track. If you are on track, then you are doing what you should be doing. In Spanish you may say we are on el buen camino. It’s a phrase that can be used casually among friends or family or at work. That means this is a very useful phrase to use!

To be on track

  • doing what is needed to achieve what is required.
    • She’s on track to get her C1 in English this year.
    • We are on track to meet the deadline next week.

To be off track/to get off track

  • This means that you are not going to achieve what is required.
    • Everything was going fine but now we are off track and will not meet the deadline.
    • We are really getting off track now, so let’s try to refocus.
  • This can also refer to someone’s behavior or attitude
    • He was such a nice kid when he was young. I don’t know when things got so off track.
    • She was doing so well with her recovery, but has really gotten off track lately.

  • To wait a long time to do something that you know needs to be done.
  • Usually it is something unpleasant so you are avoiding doing it.
    • I know I need to talk to them at some point – I’m procrastinating.
    • She procrastinates all the time when she has to clean the bathroom. She hates doing it.

  • The person who procrastinates
    • He’s such a procrastinator because he’s always leaving everything for the last minute.
    • I could never be a procrastinator because I like to get things done as soon as possible.

  • The act of delaying something that needs to be done
  • Usually because it is something you don’t like or is boring
    • We don’t have any time left for procrastination because they need a decision now.
    • Some people say that procrastination can lead to creativity.
